Critical thinking – argumentative essay

Begin the process of constructing your project by choosing a particular issue or problem. It could be related to your personal life or career path. The goal is then to align this problem or issue with a specific logic model from the text and/or other critical thinking tools you have been learning throughout the course.  As you construct your essay, utilize critical thinking tools to evaluate your data and your credible research, interpret this data, and understand your specific problem or issue from a broader, deeper and more focused perspective. In constructing your essay, utilize and integrate the Elements of Thought from Chapter 5, pp. 104-122. The book we used is Critical Thinking: Tools for Taking Charge of Your Learning and Your Life by Richard Paul and Linda Elder

Essay (Argumentative) Topic – Will a private school be more beneficial academically for my son?

Thesis – The decision of sending children to a public or private school can be a difficult decision for some parents as there are many pros and cons to private schools. “Bibby and Peil (1974) noted that children who attended private primary schools performed better than pupils in public schools” (Adeyemi, 2014). Parents should strongly consider the pros and cons of sending their child to private schools.  Students who attend a private school may have higher academic achievement due to lower student to teacher ratio and a more challenging curriculum.

Here is my instructor’s response. The thesis can be changed – Your thesis statement is prescriptive (as opposed to descriptive), which means that you are arguing a possible outcome – not a definitively provable one.  It is a bit trickier argument.
